Parks
Akagera National Park:
Whilst there is a general perception that many of the animals in this Park had fled across the river Akagerato to find refuge in the nearby Tanzanian boarder, Akagera National Park is still billed as Rwanda’s answer to competitors in the North and East. It is still the place to be for safaris with its complex mix of marshlands, lakes, undulating terrain and varied animal life. With its conducive spring-like climate Akagera National Park offers an adventurous environment. In the park you will find all manner of mammals and big game including elephants, antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, leopards, hippos and crocodiles in Lake Ihema.
Nyungwe National Forest:
This is the largest afromontane forest in Africa. It has 1000 square kilometres of jungle to the south of Rwanda and the largest remaining forest in Central and East-Africa. It is approximately a 4 hour drive from Kigali the capital of Rwanda. In Nyungwe you can see hundreds of types of orchards and over 300 types of birds. The forest also boasts over 13 primate species.
